Farewell to the UK....London to Singapore....to Sydney

Friday, 4th October - Sunday, 6th October

Emily makes some last minute adjustments to her iPad in our flat in Brentford...

Some views of the Brentford apartment...we really enjoyed staying here...very comfortable!

Checking in the bags at Heathrow airport in London...
A delicious breakfast for Lesley & David's wedding anniversary....(why did Dave book the return flight on that day...?)

Our A380 Airbus awaits us at Heathrow...

We had all planned to take the free two hour bus tour of Singapore city, but Emily was feeling poorly, so Lesley made the journey alone, but had a great time and took many wonderful photos...

Singapore's amazing architecture and beautiful gardens...

Sunset at Changi airport...our flight to Sydney wasn't due for departure until 12:45am...
We met this Chinese artist who created something very special for us...
Emily tested some fitness equipment at Changi...
This very kind Japanese lady gave Emily a special gift...this lovely fan...
Dave settles in for our flight to Sydney...A380 upper deck; he even had a spare seat next to him.
Emily & Mum ready to go...but the plane wasn't ...we waited an extra 50 minutes on the tarmac whilst the engineers repaired the entertainment system...so didn't leave Singapore until 1:50am...
The hot towels are always welcome...

London - Highgate Cemetery; Waterlow Park; Visiting Lesley's mum's home in Hornsey

Wednesday, 2nd October

Our final day of activities in the UK...two months has passed quite quickly.  Dave managed to secure a booking for a tour of the West section of Highgate Cemetery.  Definitely worth a visit; we were intrigued by the catacombs and very moved by the huge tribute to a lost daughter by a Mr Julius Beer.
Beautiful Waterlow Park...

Mausoleum of Julius Beer, with the beautiful statue of his daughter Ada, being taken to heaven by an angel. (Read more about Julius Beer and this monument.)
This photo of the inside of the mausoleum shows the beautiful sculpture above Ada's coffin. (fromhttp://viewfinder.english-heritage.org.uk/; as we were not allowed to photograph the inside.)

Grave of ex -Russian secret agent Alexander Litvinenko, who was believed to have been poisoned with radiation.

 Fun at Waterlow Park...

Southview Lane, Hornsey, where Lesley's mum lived...
The local school Lesley's mum attended...

We were fortunate to meet the Principal / Head Teacher, who gave us a copy of the school's prospectus to give to Lesley's mum.
