It was a longer day travelling back to Edinburgh than we had planned; we didn't reach our flat for the night until after 7:30pm. So it was great to find a lift to take us and our luggage to the second floor flat.
But the flat was roomy and the beds comfy, which helped for the next day's journey.
The weather was pretty dreary at times, with intermittent showers. Nevertheless we stopped on the way...at New Abbey near Dumfries in Scotland. We visited an old corn mill where Emily enjoyed grinding the oats;
Next we saw Sweetheart Abbey, dating from the 13th century. Here are some details, thanks to Wikipedia:
"...founded in 1275 by Dervorguilla of Galloway, daughter of Alan, Lord of Galloway, in memory of her husband John de Balliol. His embalmed heart, in a casket of ivory and silver, was buried alongside her when she died; the monks at the Abbey then renamed the Abbey in tribute to her..."
