We enjoyed another delicious breakfast at Little Normead farm before leaving for London via Westbury and Stonehenge. (Saturday, 7th September)
...and tiny narrow country lanes...
Our first stop was the tiny village of Castle Combe, considered by many to be the "prettiest village in England" It is certainly a lovely village...
Following our visit to Castle Combe we drove to see the white horse near Westbury.
You can drive right up near the white horse, park and walk around. Some visitors chose to walk on it (slide down it) but we decided to get close and take photos...
The views from above the white horse are pretty special...
Emily poses near the tip of the white horse's ear.
Between Westbury and Stonehenge we saw a number of thatched roof homes in small villages...
Finally we reached Stonehenge. It really is a marvel to see up close... see photos below...
It was great to be able to jump the queue and get in for free with our National Trust membership. We decided to join when we were visiting places in the Lakes District; we have already more than got our money back, plus we will be able to use the membership to visit National Trust/Heritage sites in Australia.
Visitors were also admiring these little chicks in their nest in the walkway near Stonehenge.
When we arrived in London we bade farewell to our BMW X3, which we had driven around the UK since Edinburgh, Scotland. It was a very comfortable ride, but we never really got used to paying £1.45 per litre for diesel - approx $2.45 per litre Aust dollars!
Cool....Thanks for the postcards. :)
