Paris - Musee d'Orsay; Musee d l'Orangerie

Thursday, 19th September

We began our day at the Musee d'Orsay. This museum / gallery is the highest rating attraction on Trip Advisor.  It deserves this ranking - full of famous paintings and sculptures - Van Gogh,  Monet, Picasso, Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin,  Renoir, Sisley, to name just a few.  Staff are very strict with the no photographs rule, although there are a couple of places where you can snap some overall view pics.
Mum snapped some shots on the train to the museums...

This sneaker belonged to a German girl who got it stuck in the escalator in front of us; we just couldn't get it free for her...

Here we are at the Musee d'Orsay...

Lunch break on the River Seine, Musee d'Orsay in the background...

 Cool chair....dinosaur's foot?

We crossed this bridge to head over to the Musee d l'Orangerie.  The steel railing cables are covered with padlocks; there was a man selling padlocks with the sign "Buy a padlock, make a wish for love, throw away the key."  We guessed he wasn't supposed to be selling there, as he made a dash to grab his gear and run when he thought police/security were coming...

There were quite a few pickpockets on this bridge, but instead of asking if I spoke English, one approached me from behind/ the side and produced a gold ring, holding it out to me and saying "Is this yours", pretending that she had just found it on the ground near me.  We watched her repeat the process with others on the bridge, whilst her accomplice, an older woman , waited nearby.

The view from outside the Musee d l'Orangerie, including the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe in the distance...

Entrance to the Musee d l'Orangerie...a smaller museum, but still very worthwhile , particularly seeing the large  eight water lillies murals by Claude Monet...
Nearby, at one end of the Champs Elysees, Emily discovered a snack van sellng fresh waffles and crepes....mmm...

 Enjoying a waffle in Paris...

The Arc de Triomphe in the distance, along the Champs Elysees...

 Cleopatra's needle....ancient Egyptian obelisk....

We next walked back to the Louvre for a few more photos...

On the way home, some quality buskers...could almost be an orchestra in the Paris metro underground...fabulous!

A wonderful patisserie near our apartment...we visited here a few times!

Rue Simart, location of our apartment...
